Before & After: contemporary shop design

Last year I was delighted when Fiona Gardner, owner of fresh move letting agency, asked me to design the business's new commercial premises. She had purchased a freehold property in Chelston, Torquay, which at the time was trading as a beauty salon. The brief was very open as she wanted to see what I could come up with, without imposing any restrictions, so I had a clean slate to work with. All I knew was that she wanted to create a contemporary look that stood out from the lettings crowd.

The company logo was my colour inspiration - a deep sky blue + white.

For me the name 'fresh move' itself conjures up ideas of being bright and light, having a contemporary look and being about clean lines - all of which were words that I used when developing the look of the shop.

Here are some before shots of the premises;

The whole downstairs was partitioned into treatment rooms

Once the first walls came down light started pouring in

I recommended knocking this wall down too to create an open plan office

This simple style board was the basis of the direction the design was to go in;

Together with of RSBC Builders who carried out the building works and with the help of urban office interiors, we devised the optimum layout for the office furniture and fittings and here are the after shots;

Fiona was delighted with the final result and says that clients and customers that visit the shop often comment on how refreshing and different the look of it is. I should also point out that this project had a limited budget, so it just goes to show that you really can create great spaces at affordable prices. That's what Home Restyler is all about *smile*

Lively up your walls

You know how I love wallpapers...oh how I dream of injecting colour, pattern and personality to my walls with all sorts of exciting patterns...but living in rented property puts a great big fat stop to that. However it can't stop me admiring, drooling and lusting after all the latest new collections, oh and sharing some of my favourites with you too *smile*. New collections abound at the start of every year and today I bring to the wall some of the ones that I love most for Spring 2013.

...for a calming day room / library / reading corner...curl up on a comfy chair and make up stories about what those little birds are twittering about...

Hand drawnOn a Wire - Sniff by Earth Inke

...for an injection of funk and soul into a retro living room or dining room, inspired by morning dewdrops...

Dewdrops - Ionian Sea by Miss Print, new wallpaper collection 2

...for something entirely unexpected & 100% sure to add impact and look amazing wherever its hung, I'm thinking mixed up urban chic, bare stripped wooden floors, exposed concrete sections of wall...

Brooklyn Tin Tiles - Rockett St George

...for an artistic line drawn paper to add a sense of 'escape to the country' to your living room, soothing yet invigorating in one hit ...

Sussex Downs - Ivory/Charcoal by Sanderson
I just love them all. I could post more but I am limiting myself to four pin-ups to lust after! Which is your favourite? Be sure to check out Earth Inke, not only are the hand drawn wallpapers from Shropshire gorgeous and sustainably printed but the designer creator, Katherine seems lovely too!

Happy pancake day, make mine a cinnamon buttermilk one please *smacking of lips*

Colours for your home: green

Dressing my daughter in her new school uniform got me thinking about the colour green this morning. Her uniform is green. Not far off Emerald green. The pantone colour for 2013 (huh, she has no idea how on trend she is *wink!).

Neither she nor I are ordinarily fans of the colour green - somehow it's never sat with me that well, apart from lime green, which I find invigorating, inspiring and uplifting - but you know what, she looked so good in it (wipes tear from eye...) that I thought I'd have a think about it and see what new products for SS13 I could find that rock my boat and maybe will float yours too...

Sleek, modern retro Bell pendant. Ok not emerald but still green ;)

Just how much fun?! Little Yellow Birds cotton ball lights

Brooklyn tins wallpaper, yes wallpaper. Gorgeous isn't it.

Chartreuse. Conran. John Lewis. Lush.
I found much more than this, so if you like what you see so far check out my SS13 Emerald + other greens Pinterest board for much more fab green homey stuff (ok, and a bit of yellow stuff - you know how I can't resist yellow *wink*).

Hmm, maybe I might inject a bit of green in my next home...yes, my house search continues...
